Arthur Kreizel died at home in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, on December 13, 2016. He was 92 years old.
After serving in the Navy during World War II, Kreizel ran two large textile companies. He retired in 1970 and moved to Stowe, Vermont. There, with partner Jack Cummings, he acquired the abandoned Top Notch hotel. They renovated and expanded the property, reopening as a four-star resort in 1974.
Kreizel was a member of the Explorers Club, the New York Executive Committee of the U.S. Olympic Ski Fund Committee, the Vermont Governors Economic Council, the Vermont House Finance Committee, the Vermont Mental Health Foundation and the Vermont Industrial Authority. He was founder and chairman of the board of Mountain Trust Company Bank, a member of the board of the Trapp Family Lodge and of the Stowe Area Association. He twice served as Secretary of Development and Community Affairs and Tourism under Vermont Governor Richard Snelling.
He is survived by his wife Isobella Couperthwaite Kreizel; his first wife Ann Kreizel and their sons Tom, Robert and Yochanan; his second wife Nannette Herrick and their son Justin and step-children Christina and John; his step-daughter Katrina, Isobella’s daughter; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
