10th Mountain Division veteran Joseph Paul Crimmer, of Whitesboro, New York, passed away September 13, weeks short of his 98th birthday.
Crimmer grew up in Utica, New York and enlisted in the 87th Mountain Regiment. He served in the Aleutian invasion and earned a Bronze Star during the Italian campaign. He remained active in the 10th Mountain Division Veterans’ Association for the rest of his life.
After the war Crimmer married Ruth Aldridge and earned a business degree at the University of Denver. The couple returned to Utica in 1948, where Crimmer first worked in the restaurant business. He retired in 1983 as national advertising manager for the Utica Observer-Dispatch newspaper. He is survived by his wife, two children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
