Joe Wood, 61, a PSIA-E examiner for 42 years, died August 26 in Park City. He taught more than 50,000 people to ski and worked with thousands of ski instructors who took Professional Ski Instructors Association-Eastern Division (PSIA-E) exams. He was the youngest ever to be appointed an examiner at the time. He also served as chair of the Board of Examiners and coach for the Development Team and Examiner Training Squad.
In the 1970s, Wood taught at Stowe before becoming director of Pico Ski School. As base area operations manager at Killington’s Snowshed, he oversaw the ski school before becoming director of the Ski and Ride School for Killington and Pico (2007–2010).
