Réal Charette was born in Ste. Agathe and began teaching at Gray Rocks at age 18. During World War II he was sent to Jasper, Alberta, to teach skiing to an alpine warfare unit. Returning to Gray Rocks in 1945, he became the first instructor to receive certification in Canada, and was named director of the Snow Eagle School in 1948, becoming the first Canadian to head a ski school in Canada.
Réal helped to found the Canadian Ski Instructors’ Alliance and served as its president for several years. After retiring from the ski school in 1981, he ran the Gray Rock marketing department and managed its golf course.
