Stratton Marketing VP

Passing Date:
Friday, December 12, 2014

Michael Cobb, longtime vice president of sales and marketing at Stratton, died Dec. 12 of cancer. He was 63.

Born in Garnerville, N.Y., Cobb discovered skiing at 14 and was immediately hooked. He became a junior patroller at Silvermine Ski Area, in Harriman, N.Y., in 1967. In time he succeeded at nearly every on-snow job he could find in the ski resort business: ski patroller, certified instructor and PSIA examiner and freestyle coach. Along the way he served as president of the New York Ski Areas Association.

Beginning in 1996 Cobb worked at Stratton Mountain as vice president of sales and marketing. In that job he launched the Stratton Mountain Club and was a founding director of the Stratton Foundation. To raise money for the Foundation he pioneered the 24 Hours of Stratton, a round-the-clock skiing marathon. He also served as a selectman in Peru, Vermont, and on the board of the Manchester and Mountains Chamber of Commerce.

Cobb is survived by his wife Margaret and children Stirling, Austin and Alexandra.
