This was shot by Hollywood director Darrryl Zanuk on 35 mm. John Jay was in it. He was a private in the Signal corp at the time, and already an accomplished indie filmmaker himself. Walter Prager is also said to be one of the skiers. The best reference to it I've read is in "Climb to Conquer" by Peter Sheldon, page 49.
