On December 7, 2001, ski coach Michael Bont was in Switzerland, “celebrating like hell,” his Jacuzzi crammed with friends. Earlier that day, one of the skiers he trained, Silvano Beltrametti, had placed third in a World Cup super-G at Val d’Isère, France, thus qualifying for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, two months away.

Football star and broadcaster turned ski-school director and promoter.

Joe C. Jones grew up in Vallejo, California, participating in school sports in his youth. After two successful years on a conference championship football team at Vallejo Junior College, he was recruited by the University of Washington to play fullback on the Jim Owens–led Huskies squad. Jones accepted the challenge and helped the Huskies win back-to-back Rose Bowl games in 1960 and 1961.

Your article “Dusty Passion: Books on Skiing” (November-December 2022) delighted this old librarian/bibliographer’s heart. To think that you and possibly other collectors of skiing books may use Yaple numbers to order their shelves gives me an altogether superior thrill. Abundant thanks! In the 10 years spent discovering ski book citations, it never crossed my mind that Ski Bibliography might be utilized to order collections of ski books.. However, the professional librarian’s first duty is to “organize information so it can be found.”
